The Marine Biology Program is recognized for its quality through national quality accreditation by an accrediting body, recognized by the Council for the Evaluation of Higher Education.
Marine Biology
The educational experiences that make up the curricula offered correspond to the biological area (invertebrates, botany, microbiology, etc.), chemistry (general chemistry, biochemistry, etc.), mathematics (statistics, multivariate statistics, etc.), ecology (marine ecology), physics and general (administration, design and evaluation of projects, etc.).
In general, there is agreement on the basic subjects related to marine biological diversity and mathematics and chemistry as well as inclusive educational experiences (e.g. evolution). It proposes social and human development based on a precise knowledge of natural marine resources that allows their conservation for future generations.
Therefore the graduate will have the technical and theoretical capacity to propose:
- Strategies for the study of marine biological diversity
- Prepare diagnostics on the state of conservation of marine ecosystems
- Propose management guidelines for marine-coastal species and ecosystems
- Establish guidelines and strategies to restore marine environments and recover endangered species.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Bachelor in Marine Biology program is to train professionals with an integral profile and ethical values that give them competence to generate knowledge and understand the biological processes of marine organisms that lead to the proper management of marine biological resources, as well as to detect and propose production strategies and collaborate in the social and cultural development of different sectors, preserving the marine environment within the framework of sustainable development.
Vision
By 2030, the Faculty of Biological and Agricultural Sciences, Zona Poza Rica Tuxpan of the Universidad Veracruzana is expected to enjoy national and international prestige in terms of its teaching, research and knowledge dissemination activities, particularly in the area of Marine Biology. To this end, it will train trained professionals and develop research programs to address the problems of the marine environment in relation to biodiversity, production and management.
The Marine Biology program will be certified by the Higher Education accrediting bodies and this will allow it to offer quality services to society with the highest ethical and professional level, thus maintaining a permanent link with different social sectors.

OVERARCHING OBJECTIVE
To train professionals in an integral way, competent to approach the study of marine organisms and processes that allows continuous learning, with human and socially responsible quality in order to solve problems related to biodiversity and the production of goods and services linked to marine environments.
Intellectual Objective
To promote the development of logical, critical and creative thinking based on lifelong learning, innovative, creative and entrepreneurial development that allows the student to generate and acquire new knowledge related to marine biology to seek solutions to problems related to biodiversity and the production of goods and services related to marine ecosystems and their components, interacting with multi and interdisciplinary groups.
Human Objective
Promote and cultivate ethical attitudes and principles that define the values of integrity, respect for nature, equity, responsibility and commitment that contribute to personal growth in all its manifestations.
Social Objective
Contribute to the strengthening of values and attitudes that facilitate the integration of the individual into working groups to interact, live together and work as a team expressing freedom of expression, plurality and respect, leading responsibly to solve the problems of marine ecosystems and their components.
Professional Objective
To offer to the student, the educational experiences that allow him to obtain and to develop the theoretical, heuristic and axiological knowledges that base the knowledge to do of the Licentiate in Marine Biology, so that it faces the challenges in that area with quality and ethics that allows them to incorporate to the private and public sectors of their professional area.
